“OUR RESPONSIBILITY AS ARTISTS IS TO CREATE AN OPEN SPACE FOR TRANSFORMATION FOR OURSELVES AND EACH PERSON TOUCHED BY OUR ART”
Delmar León is a self-taught artist born and raised in Venezuela. Those years inform much of who she is as a painter today. She began painting when she was 9 years old, in a unique community where an unlikely combination of art, mysticism, and Catholicism formed the fabric of her daily life. With a background in architecture and years of professional consulting in the ancient art of Feng Shui, Delmar has spent the last 20 years traveling extensively, while living and working throughout the U.S. Her time spent in both Asia and California have influenced her significantly, and she has incorporated those specific experiences and cultural touchstones into her work. Now living in the Santa Rita Hills she is intertwined with the art of winemaking. Her art showcases bountiful mountains and hills, marine layer characteristics of the location and reflection of the special nature of the terroir.
Delmar is emerging as one of the most intriguing artists working today. Each of her paintings evokes a distinct and often strongly emotional response in the viewer, who is often then lifted to a lightness of spirit after discovering a new and liberating aspect embedded in her painting. That discovery might be on the first viewing, after a month, or even after a year of living, waking, and retiring each day in the presence of her work.
